(occurs before the packs form)
The Silver Pines always seemed to fall away from Noven when he walked through their hanging branches. Over the moons he had lived within the cavern in the middle of the pines, he had guided many stray wolves from their glow - it made most wolves minds' muddled and led them to traps in the forest and killed them, if starvation didn't hit first. The Silver Pines faded behind the gray brute as he wandered more into the forest. The dawn had just risen and he was fresh from his sleep - today felt promising. The sun was a little brighter, the birds were singing a little louder. Noven finally stopped when he came to a small, clear creek. The water danced over the pebbles that covered the bottom. He lapped up the crisp water, feeling it cool his throat as he swallowed. He raised his head, ears tilted forward, and closed his eyes. He scented the air, searching for a smell that made his mouth water. Spring was the best time of year - when the deer were plentiful and not hiding out from the cold climates. He caught the trail of a small herd. Opening his eyes, Noven stepped through the creek, small, dusty swirls following his paws. He moved at a leisurely pace after them even though his stomach was growling. He wanted to take the day as it came. It was calm and quiet, something that wasn't often and shouldn't be ruined.

Of all the places that Gael loved to go Nara disliked the silver pines the most. The trees seemed to lean in as if to grab her with their branches and ensnare her. It was easy to lose one's way within the foggy maze of silver, glowing branches and it was just as easy to lose her sister in the maze as well. Nara had lost Gael on a few occasions, although, her sister never seemed too concerned about it . But then again Gael was never concerned about much.
Anger sprang to life in her gut as her thoughts continued. Gael. Her older sister and most beloved of her parents. Nara heaved a sigh as she paused to look around. She was defiantly lost, there was no doubt about that but Gael wasn't with her this time. She was off doing gods know what. Nara scented the air, trying to figure out if she had been this way before. That was one thing she noticed, the forest had a way to make some individuals wander in circle for days on end. For some reason the forest seemed to like Gael, not that Nara cared. The obsidian she wolf growled in annoyance her pale amber eyes cutting through the mist. She looked like a shadow in an ocean of silver and white. The fog clung to her as if to drag her down. If Gael were present Nara would have found herself in a completely different atmosphere, but her older sister was off doing her own thing. She glared at the forest before grumbling and continuing on her way.

Noven realized the pack had turned him completely around and was dragging him back toward the Silver Pines. He should have noticed that the trail was staler around the creek, but he had hardly cared. He was barely awake when he caught the scent, but the more he walked, the more sleep he shook off and his blue eyes were opened a bit wider. He enjoyed the pines - which is why he made his home in their center. There seemed to be a magic about them. As he padded back into their cover, the scent of the herd was growing stronger, but so was the smell of another wolf. He stopped, taking in the scent. It was foreign to him. He knew some of the wolves that made homes close by, and he was friendly enough toward them, but this one was new. He turned that way instead, knowing the herd would still be in the clutch of the trees whenever he was ready to continue hunting them.

Nara grew more and more agitated with each passing step. The limp she gained from her duel with Gael was only slightly visible now, in a few weeks it would be gone completely. Her sister didn't escape the duel without injury, the beautiful silver she wolf was scarred and her ear shredded. That's the least she deserved for what she had done. It took every ounce of Nara's willpower to agree to start over and not fight but Nara still held the grudge. She still blamed Gael for the death of their brother. She tried to see it through the eyes of her sister but she just couldn't. She tried, she really did, but nothing Gael said or did made things any better.
Nara paused again, scenting the air for the hundredth time since entering the silver pines. The trees pressed in closer and closer, threatening to devour her whole. Nara growled at the silver pines, her crimson eyes narrowing in mistrust and dislike. She didn't care if she sounded foolish for growling at trees, especially in this wood. Why they had to live close to this forsaken forest Nara had no idea. She preferred the open grassland of the plains but Gael liked the forest, said it reminded her of 'home'. Nara snorted at the thought of it, the ridiculousness of it. Her ears pressed against her head as she bared her teeth at the trees. She had no doubt that the trees were at least partially sentient or magical. There was no way that they weren't, they couldn't be normal.
"One day someone is going to burn you all down and I will not feel sorry about it at all." Nara growled lowly. She was about to continue walking when a strange smell caught her attention, a wolf was close by and a male at that. Normally Nara would have left, ignoring the other wolf and heading in the opposite direction, but because she was currently lost she decided her best coarse of action would be to wait and let the stranger find her. Perhaps he would know a way out of the wood and if he didn't, well then they could be lost together. The mist seemed to thicken as Nara waited for the stranger to reach her.
